Open consultation: Establishing common measures of socio-economic background

In March this year, our Talent Action Plan 2016 set out the government’s commitment, working with employers and other interested sectors, to develop a new set of measures to enable employers to understand the socio-economic backgrounds of their workforces and applicant pools. This work is part of the broader strategy to improve social mobility in the Civil Service.

This engagement exercise seeks views to inform the development of a recommended set of socio-economic backgrounds (SEB) measures, for employers to measure socio-economic diversity of their workforce and applicants.

Cabinet Office is leading the engagement working with the Bridge Group, an independent charity specialising in social mobility. We are also getting advice from employers recognised as Champions in the Social Mobility Business Compact, the BIS Compact team, the Social Mobility Commission, organisations specialising in social mobility, academics, and supporting employers.

Please download the response form and email to SEBmeasures@cabinetoffice.gov.uk.
